2020 School Bus Driver International Safety Competition

As you know, the COVID-19 health crisis has forced the school transportation industry, as well as the entire country, to refocus its efforts. As an industry, we continue to take steps to ensure that the largest transportation system in the United States maintains its viability. We appreciate the efforts of so many during these turbulent times, but it has become apparent over the past two weeks, that hosting our 2020 NSTA Annual Meeting and Convention, as well as the School Bus Driver International Safety Competition, also in July, was becoming increasingly unfeasible. At this point, the availability of participants, competitors, attendees, sponsors, and speakers to be able to travel cannot be confirmed at this point, and the ability of the industry to take time away from operations has become increasingly less likely as well.

In addition, most, if not all, states have already cancelled their Safety Competitions, reducing or eliminating the pool of competitors. Like you, we are deeply dismayed, but accepting, of this unfortunate reality.

Therefore, we are disappointed to inform you that the 2020 NSTA Annual Meeting and Convention, scheduled for July 19-22, 2020, and the School Bus Driver International Safety Competition (July 18-19, 2020) in Niagara Falls, NY have both been cancelled.

If you have already made hotel reservations under the NSTA room block, those will automatically be cancelled by the host hotel (Sheraton –Niagara Falls). An email cancellation notice will be sent to you, directly from the hotel.

Moving ahead, we look forward to hosting the 2021 NSTA Annual Meeting and Convention, and 2021 School Bus Driver International Safety Competition, as scheduled, in Milwaukee, WI from July 17, 2021 to July 21, 2021. In addition, we are finalizing plans to host the 2022 AMC and SBDISC in Niagara Falls in July 2022. NSTA foresees a time when the industry can once again come together and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Safety Competition. We also would like to take this opportunity to thank NSTA Awards and Meetings co-chairs Gail Hyser and Paul Heinowski, Safety Competition Committee co-chairs Bill Loshbough and Doug Campbell, for their efforts as we had begun preparations for these two important NSTA events.

We appreciate your continued support, and remind you that we will get through these tough times together. Wishing you and your loved ones continued good health. Please feel free to reach out to the NSTA team at info@yellowbuses.org, if you require information on these events, or any other issue of importance to you.

Sincerely,
National School Transportation Association
