The Mission

NSTA has been the Washington voice for private contractors, manufacturers, and suppliers for more than 40 years. Our mission is to provide school transportation professionals with the tools and resources they need to make school buses safe, affordable, and efficient nationwide. We believe that with the right information, training, and resources, school transportation professionals can strengthen their businesses and provide higher quality service to school districts.

What is NSTA?

Founded in 1964, the National School Transportation Association is the only national organization representing the interests and concerns of private school transportation contractors. Our members include companies of all sizes - smaller operations with fewer than 20 buses, to larger corporations with more than 1,000 buses - who share one common goal: making school transportation safe, affordable, and efficient for school districts.

We are committed to helping school transportation professionals find solutions to daily challenges, information on the issues that affect them the most, savings on administrative costs, and the training they need to be the best they can be.

A National Voice

NSTA is your voice on Capitol Hill, with Congress, the Administration, federal agencies, and other national organizations. As the leading advocate for the private school transportation industry, NSTA supports legislation that benefits your company and opposes mandates harmful to your bottom line. From testifying before Congressional committees to mobilizing grassroots support for legislative issues, NSTA works on the national level to protect your interests, secure federal funding and grant opportunities for private bus contractors, manufacturers, and suppliers.

A Valuable Resource

NSTA also provides programs and services that enable you to run your company effectively and successfully. Our Annual Conference and small meetings throughout the year give you an opportunity to network with others in the industry and share ideas that work. Our NSTA newsletter is filled with legislative, regulatory, and industry news so that you stay informed on the issues affecting your company. Training opportunities prepare you and your company for the many challenges you face. The International Safety Competition allows school bus operators to showcase their expertise. Member benefits such as a workers compensation plan, health insurance plan, and discounts on fuel service save school bus companies thousands of dollars each year.
